Man charged in sword attack

HIGH FALLS, Ga. — Authorities say a Monroe County man is being held on allegations he cut his girlfriend several times with a sword.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday that 44-year-old Grover Allen Vigil of High Falls is charged with aggravated battery in the Sept. 5 incident. The statement says further charges may be pending after review by the district attorney's office.

Deputies responded to Vigil's home at 3:30 a.m. Sept. 5 and found a 35-year-old woman with serious injuries. Sheriff's office spokeswoman Allison Selman-Willis said the woman had been sliced in several places and had extensive injuries from cuts on her face.

Selman-Willis said the woman was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia and has been released.
