AIKEN -- Officials say there has been a moderate turnout today for the Republican primary election of three Aiken City Council seats.
Stuart Bedenbaugh, executive director of Aiken County Registration and Elections, said shortly after noon that there have been no major problems with the election process so far today and that there have been no lines at any precinct locations.
Polls are set to stay open for residents of the city of Aiken until 7 p.m. today. Mr. Bedenbaugh said he expects results should then be tallied by about 8:30 p.m.
On the ballot are candidates for two at-large seats and those seeking a District 4 seat. Vying for the at-large seats are incumbent Don Wells, Kent Cubbage, Steve Homoki and Liz Stewart The top two finishers in at-large races will advance to the Nov. 3 election, where there will be no Democratic opposition.
Allen Brodie and Reggie Ebner are facing off for the District 4 seat, which is being vacated by Richard Smith. The other at-large seat is held by Jane Vaughters, who is not seeking re-election.
