Glascock closes school today; football game in Atlanta still on

The Glascock County Consolidated School will be closed today as part of an extended four-day weekend following a virus outbreak at the school.

Glascock County Board of Education Superintendent Jim Holton said that a growing number of students have been absent recently due to gastrointestinal viruses and flu.

The school board made the decision to close the school to give students a four-day weekend in the hopes of breaking the incubation cycle of the virus.

Mr. Holton said the extended weekend will also give the school’s maintenance staff a chance to disinfect the school facility.

The Glascock County Consolidated School varsity football ball scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today at Southwest Atlanta Christian has not been cancelled.
