Two face meth charges

Authorities arrested two men today they believe were in the early stages of building a methamphetamine lab.

Chad Allen Cooper, 21, of 3551 Mike Padgett Highway, and Jesse James Jernigan, 34, of 1710 Powell Road, are each charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, according to Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Robert Partain.

Narcotics investigators received information that the men would be transporting equipment to make the drug in their truck today and attempted to make a traffic stop on Deans Bridge Road about 12:30 p.m. when the suspects drove off, Lt. Partain said.

They led deputies to a wooded area near Camp Josey Road in Blythe near the Richmond County Sheriff's Department Training Center, where they fled on foot and were apprehended. Lt. Partain said they recovered chemicals in the truck that are used to make the drug.
