Teen drowns in apartment pool

A 14-year-old boy died in an apparent drowning at Charlestowne South Apartments Saturday night.

According to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald, Byron Keith Raydell McIntosh Jr. was visiting relatives for a party at the apartment complex at 2119 Lumpkin Road. About 8 p.m. maintenance workers said it was closing time for the pool, and the teenager left the pool with his family.

Later, the boy's family noticed he was missing and went looking for him. About 9:30 p.m. a man spotted the teenager on the bottom of the pool, pulled him out and performed CPR.

He was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:01 p.m.

The investigation into the young man’s death is ongoing, Deputy Coroner McDonald said.

He was a ninth grade student at Cross Creek High School, Deputy Coroner McDonald said.

His body has been taken to Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Atlanta, and an autopsy is scheduled Monday morning.
