Police have arrested a suspect in six Augusta robberies that took place during the past two weeks.
About 1:30 a.m. today, Calvin Eugene White was taken into custody without incident at the corner of Eve and Watkins streets after the Richmond County Sheriff's Office dispatch received an anonymous call reporting that he was in the area on foot.
Sheriff's Lt. Scott Peebles said Mr. White, 28, is a suspect in the robbery of the Walton Way Supermarket at 1931 Walton Way and the Budget Inn at 444 Broad St. on Aug. 10, the Budget Inn again on Aug. 14, the Georgia Bank & Trust at Eighth and Reynolds streets on Aug. 20, the Econo Lodge at 1103 15th St. on Sunday, and the Subway restaurant at 203 13th St. on Monday.
Lt. Peebles said that a victim of one of the robberies saw Mr. White getting out of a truck to enter a hotel Sunday. The victim called the front desk and told them to lock the door before Mr. White could enter. After the victim got the trucks tag number, investigators were able to track down the driver of the truck involved in the attempted robbery at the hotel.
Mr. White was also identified from video surveillance of the robbery of the Subway Monday.
