Meth explosion sends Fla. child to Augusta burn unit

Florida authorities say the fire from an exploding meth lab on Sunday burned a toddler and sent her to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

The News Herald of Panama City quoted sheriff's deputies, who said the fire involved illegal drug manufacture.

Bay County sheriff’s deputies said 33-year-old John Franklin Osborn is facing drug and child abuse charges. Witnesses said he fled the scene after the fire.

The child, a 1-year-old girl whose playpen melted in the flames, was airlifted to the special burn unit, where she was said to be suffering from second- and third-degree burns on nearly half her body, the newspaper reported.
