Judge sets Wed. hearing on Graniteville water issue

A judge has scheduled a hearing on Avondale Mills' water-rate injunction for noon Wednesday in the Aiken County Courthouse, according to Sen. Shane Massey and Rep. Tom Young.

Mr. Massey, an Edgefield Republican, represents the part of Aiken County whose residents have been protesting increases to their water and sewer bills.

Last week the S.C. Public Service Commission voted to reinstate Avondale Mills' rate hikes, which have been has high as 700-800 percent.

Last Thursday a judge issued a temporary court injunction to halt the reinstitution of higher water and sewer rates for Graniteville and Vaucluse customers.
