Discussion of the downtown trade exhibit facility or TEE Center appears off the table for this afternoon's meeting of the Augusta Commission.

Today had been the commission's last scheduled meeting before Aug. 31, the date businessman Julian Osbon said a deal on selling property for a Hyatt hotel will collapse. Hyatt officials indicated they would back out of their Augusta plans if the exhibit center was not built nearby.

Commissioner Joe Jackson had placed “discuss/update path forward relative to TEE Center” on today’s agenda, but commissioner Don Grantham said beforehand that he thought it would be withdrawn.

Also postponed today was discussion of federal stimulus funds for the Village of Goshen project in south Augusta.

Just to be clear I believe

Just to be clear I believe the TEE center is a great idea. I am just up to my eyeballs in disgust w/ all the wishy washyness that comes along w/ the project. I still say build the TEE center.

Don't they have the money the voters approved for it in 2005? Plus an extra $7 million? How does a project more than triple in costs in just a few years?

Let the citizens have a chance to vote for the TEE center again. Please let us speak as to whether we still want it. My vote is NO.

I agree Lamb.. The voters

I agree Lamb.. The voters approved $20 million for a TEE center and they expected it to be under construction before now. These SPLOST projects need to have an expiration date. If they are not under construction within a certain time they have to go back before the voters to be reapproved. Also if a SPLOST project is drastically altered after being approved by voters, such as its cost being more than tripled, then voters should have the opportunity to reconsider it. However you may feel about the need for a TEE Center, I think most people can agree this thing has been grossly mishandled from day one.

I am disgusted that our

I am disgusted that our community will never get out of the dark ages due to the lack of cooperation that our elected officials show for each other and that nothing gets accomplished. The TEE center would be an amazing asset for us all. The JBA is outdated and is not well designed for hosting trade shows.
