Aiken school traffic may have delays; morning was smooth

AIKEN -- Aiken County's first day began smoothly.

Deputy Superintendent David Caver said all buses made it to school this morning without too much trouble. Normal adjustment to new bus routes usually entails about a 20-30 minute gap the first week of school.

Traffic around elementary schools will be the busiest this afternoon as parents pick up their children.

Look for Edgefield Road and Five Notch Road in North Augusta to offer the heaviest traffic. Pine Log Road near Whiskey Road in Aiken could also see a jam as South Aiken High, Kennedy Middle and Millbrook Elementary release students.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
