Atlanta Bread Company robbed Thursday

A masked man beat two Atlanta Bread Company employees with a baseball bat Thursday night in an attempt to steal money from the restaurant’s safe.

A manager for the restaurant, on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway, told Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies he was leaving out of the back door at about 11:12 p.m. when he saw a man was standing outside with a baseball bat raised above his head, a Richmond County Sheriff’s report said.

The suspect, who was wearing what appeared to be a cotton shirt with eye holes cut out, pulled the manager back into the store and then began striking him and another employee with the bat in their upper bodies. The manager was nearly knocked unconscious by a blow to the head then the suspect forced him to his feet and demanded the money in the store’s safe, the report said.

The manager opened the safe and the suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot.

He was described as a black male, about five feet eight inches in height and weighing between 120 and 140 pounds, the report said. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1080.
