Man arrested in fatal shooting tonight

Police say an Augusta man was fatally shot tonight by a boarder in his home.

Joseph Dominic Hoehn, 41, of the 200 block of Deerfield Lane, has been charged in the shooting death of Robert Congleton, 38, of the same address, said Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles. Witnesses told police Mr. Hoehn entered the home inebriated and caused a commotion tonight. Mr. Congleton told him to retreat to his room.

At about 9 p.m., Mr. Hoehn began playing music loudly, authorities say, and Mr. Congleton knocked on the door of the room, asking for the music to be turned down. Lt. Peebles said Mr. Hoehn shot a round through his door, which hit Mr. Congleton in the head, killing him instantly.

Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said an autopsy is planned for Saturday morning at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Augusta.
