Would-be kidnapper sought

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who attempted to kidnap a 9-year-old girl from her yard in the 2200 block of Bayville Road Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff's Investigator William Leisey said the man grabbed the child and took her from her yard but was unable to hold on to her. The man fled in a late 1990s model faded-gray, late model Buick Century.

The would-be kidnapper is described as black, 35 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He had ear-length dreadlocks with beads or shells braided in them, possibly a goatee and mustache. He was wearing a sleeveless, red, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
