Effort to collect school supplies

A drive to collect school supplies for needy pupils will be held today at four area Wal-Marts.

The Stuff the Bus event, sponsored by United Way of the CSRA, will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Wal-Marts in Evans on Washington Road, in Martinez on Bobby Jones Expressway, in Augusta on Deans Bridge Road and in Waynesboro, Ga., on North Liberty Street.

New school materials, such as paper, pens and pencils, calculators, glue and backpacks, are requested. Shoppers can find a full list of needed supplies inside the Wal-Marts, said Karen Ribble, Columbia County school system’s community relations coordinator.

Volunteers will be collecting school supplies and loading them onto a school bus parked in front of each Wal-Mart location.

The supplies will either be donated to United Way or go directly to county school systems to be distributed to pupils, Ms. Ribble said.
