The newly rebuilt Krystal restaurant at 1555 Walton Way re-opens on Monday morning.

Down and up in 10 weeks.

And the new Krystal restaurant at 1555 Walton Way was a week ahead of schedule.

It opens Monday morning at 6 a.m., said Krystal’s area operations director Johnny Danley, and with double the crew that it had before the project.

While other fast food restaurant chains more frequently tear down old restaurants and rebuild in place, this is the first for Krystal, he said.

“This is a test. If this one does well, we will do others,” Mr. Danley said.

The store employs 45 people now, Mr. Danley said. It had 22 employees before the project, which were relocated to other stores during the construction.

The new restaurant fits the décor of the new Krystals being built nationally, said John Wulf, corporate marketing director. The look harkens back to Krystal’s heritage with white tile, chrome and shiny stainless steel.

The company improved its drive-thru ordering technology, added credit card and debit payment options and added free Wi-Fi Internet access. It also installed a digital menu board.

“One of the goals was to rebuild quickly so that we don’t upset customers,” Mr. Wulf said.

The Chattanooga, Tenn.-based chain owns four stores in the Augusta area and has five others that are run by franchisees.

Krystal is on schedule to open a total of 20 new company-owned restaurants nationally by the end of the year.
