North Augusta's TTX to furlough employees for two months

TTX Co. in North Augusta will be furloughing workers for at least 60 days beginning in August.

“In response to these business conditions, TTX will reduce car maintenance expenditures by suspending all TTX railcar maintenance at the Southeastern Repair Division North Augusta shop, which will idle effective Friday, Aug. 7,” Sara Lorenzo, a communications director at Chicago-based TTX Co., said in a statement today.

This idle period will be for a minimum of 60 days and affects 170 employees. Employees will continue to receive health and welfare benefits during this period, she said.

TTX will continue to monitor industry conditions and resume TTX railcar maintenance activity at the North Augusta shop when economic conditions improve, she said. The local plant is located at 1 Hamburg Road in North Augusta.

TTX provides railcars and freight car management services to the North American rail industry.
