Salley man pleads guilty to sex crimes

AIKEN -- A Salley man pleaded guilty in an Aiken County courtroom today to sex crimes, and was sentenced to a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Dale Tony Cooper, who was 73 at the time of his arrest in 2007, pleaded guilty to three counts of a lewd act on a child under the age of 14, said Brenda Brisbin, an assistant Aiken County solicitor. Mr. Cooper was sentenced to 10 years on each count, with each sentence to run concurrently, Ms. Brisbin said.

The charges Mr. Cooper pleaded to involved two female victims, and the incidents reportedly occurred at Mr. Cooper’s house between 1974 to 1985, Ms. Brisbin said. As part of Mr. Cooper’s sentence he also must register as a sex offender and remain on GPS monitoring for the rest of his life.
