Overlook at SC lake closed today for road work

ANDERSON, S.C. — Some viewing areas at one of South Carolina's top recreation sites are going to be closed for a few days.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the South Carolina Overlook and Hartwell Dam Viewing Area in Anderson is closing on Monday for repaving.

Officials say visitors should use other nearby areas while the overlook is closed for five to seven days.

Hartwell Lake is on the Georgia-South Carolina border. It was built by the Corps between 1955 and 1963 as part of a flood control, hydropower, and navigation project. Now, the Corps says millions visit the area each year for recreation



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
