Soldier charged with firing shots

An Army soldier stationed at Fort Gordon was arrested after firing a gun outside 1102 Downtown Bar and Grill on Broad Street early this morning, according to authorities.

Christopher Wesley Millhouse, 21, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to a Richmond County jail committal.

The shooting happened at about 1:45 a.m., after Mr. Millhouse entered the bar and started to argue with another man over a woman, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report. Mr. Millhouse lifted his shirt to expose a firearm, and the other man left the bar. Mr. Millhouse approached the other man outside and aimed the weapon at him, the report says. The other man attempted to disarm Mr. Millhouse, and while the two men were struggling two shots were fired from the gun.

The other man was eventually able to get the weapon away from Mr. Millhouse, the report said.

The gun, a .40-caliber, semi-automatic silver Smith & Wesson, was recovered by the officer.
