Westobou schedule announced

Bells, bands and the ballet feature prominently on the Westobou Festival schedule released today.


The festival, which takes place Sept. 17-26 at various venues in and around Augusta, features a variety of performances and exhibitions by both local artists and touring professionals.

Popular music acts confirmed for this year’s festival include Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, the Avett Brothers, Shawn Mullins, Keb Mo, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Cha band.

Other music performances include a production of the Carmina Burana, featuring the Augusta Choral Society, a large scale handbell performance, Video Games Live, presented by the Augusta Symphony, the Sitka Trio and Chicago-based jazz singer Patricia Barber.

Other fine arts presentations include: a lecture on the work of Gordon Parks - an influential photographer, aritist, composer and filmmaker - at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art; an Augusta Players' production of Gypsy; screenings of the locally produced documentary Displaced – The Unexpected Fallout from the Cold War and the silent classic The General; a performance by American Ballet Theatre II.

The festival will also feature an ongoing organ series, a chamber music series, multiple art exhibitions and the inaugural Donald Portnoy Violin Competition.

The Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival will once again be part of the Westobou events.
