State helping police look into death of woman who left home

The state is assisting in an investigation of a local personal care home after one of its sick residents wandered away and was later found dead.

The Georgia Division of Healthcare Facility Regulations is aiding the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in an investigation of House of Life Personal Care Home on Wrightsboro Road, a state spokeswoman said today.

On Thursday, Elizabeth Bert, suffering from diabetes and Alzheimer’s, wandered away from the facility, police said. On Sunday, the 85-year-old woman’s body was found two miles away in a wooded area.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
