Wrens police arrested two men today after they attempted to cash what authorities say are counterfeit checks at a Jet Store .
Maros T. Johnson III, 30, from Atlanta has been charged by the Wrens Police Department with one count of forgery in the first degree, a felony. The identity of the second man was not available late tonight.
Each man presented a separate check in excess of $470 at the convenience store on Thomson Highway, said Lt. David Leonard, an investigator with the police department. The checks were presented as payroll checks from Central Steel Building Systems on Clarks Mill Road in Louisville.
Several cases of counterfeit checks have also occurred in nearby Louisville in recent months. Lt. Leonard said he did not know if there was any connection to those crimes and to the ones in Wrens.
