Woman robbed on Walton Way

A 20-year-old woman said she was robbed at gunpoint Thursday while checking her vehicle’s engine in the 1900 block of Walton Way.

The victim said a man rode up to her on a blue bicycle and demanded her pocket book, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s report. The two argued then the suspect pointed a black handgun at her neck and said he would kill her if she didn’t give it to him, the report said.

He reached into the car to grab the purse and dumped the majority of its contents on the ground. The thief fled the scene with about $15 and other items.

The robbery took place not far from another holdup earlier this week.

Investigators said they are still searching for a man who beat a 68-year-old man in the bathroom of Burger King on Walton Way Tuesday afternoon.

In that case, the victim told police a man approached from behind in the restroom and began punching him in the back of the head, according to a sheriff’s report.

The victim pleaded with the assailant to stop and handed him $20 from his wallet. The suspect was seen riding a bicycle outside the location shortly before the incident.

Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1080.
