Traffic changes at Fort Gordon Gate 2

Fort Gordon drivers should be prepared for detours starting today because of construction of Gate 2.

According to a news release from the Public Affairs Office of the United States Army Signal Center & Fort Gordon, drivers will not be able to turn left from Gordon Highway into Gate 2 as a result of the construction.

In addition, starting today traffic at Gate 2 will be inbound only from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays through Fridays until late August.

After 10 a.m. on these days, traffic will be one lane inbound and one lane outbound.

There will be lighted message signs along the roads approaching Gate 2 warning drivers of the traffic flow, the news release states. There will also be a reduction of speed limits in the construction zone.

The gate construction is part of a $4.8 million project to install ID checkpoints with overhead covers at all of the gates, and is required in order to meet Department of Defense force protection standards. Gate 2 will be the first of four entry gates to undergo construction. After work has finished on Gate 2, Gates 3, 5 and 1 will be completed in that order.
