Aiken jail offers victim service

The Aiken County Detention Center is among 23 jails in South Carolina that recently started offering a victim notification service.

The service, funded by a grant through the South Carolina Department of Corrections, offers crime victims the chance to get information about those arrested via a phone call or e-mail. Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Charles Barranco said the service was started at the Aiken County jail a couple of months ago, adding, “It’s a great program.”
