Police seek missing Augusta woman

Richmond County investigators are looking into what they are calling the “suspicious” disappearance of an Augusta woman, Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles said today.

Jessica Lynn Murphy, 30, of Tubman Street, left for work at The Augusta Chronicle on Saturday and has not been seen since, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

Ms. Murphy told her mother she was going by the residence she shared with her estranged husband to feed a cat before she drove to work, the report said. At about 1:45 p.m. Ms. Murphy was last seen on Mike Padgett Highway at Brown Road. Investigators said they think Ms. Murphy may be in danger, Lt. Peebles said in an e-mail.

Her husband, 37-year-old Scottie Murphy, is believed to have moved out of the Tubman Street home about two weeks ago, and police are now trying to locate him.

Ms. Murphy was last seen driving her green 2003 Kia Rio, which had a white replacement door handle on the passenger side, Lt. Peebles said.

Ms. Murphy works in The Chronicle’s advertising department.

Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s department at (706) 821-1080.
