Two local schools have been recognized as among the best high schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine.
John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School is No. 278 and Lakeside High School is No. 309, according to the magazines annual rankings released Monday.
Newsweek ranks public schools using a formula that takes into account the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge tests taken by students in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors. Schools listed in the Top 1500 are among the top 6 percent of schools when using this formula.
Last year, Davidson was ranked No. 202. Lakeside was ranked No. 1198.
