ID theft case under way in federal court

A man accused of conducting an elaborate identy theft scheme to cash in on more than $630,000 in fraudulent tax returns made his first court appearance in Augusta this morning.

Anthony Davila, 44, has been living in Tampa but federal investigators allege while living in the Augusta area from January 2005 through December 2007 when he mailed 11 of 134 false tax returns.

This morning U.S. Magistrate Judge W. Leon Barfield began hearing evidence to determine if Mr. Davila can be released on bond.


Savannah River Site resumes normal activity
