Crews find body of man missing in SC river

COLUMBIA — Crews have recovered the body of a South Carolina man reported missing after he fell from his raft while floating down a river near Columbia.

Multiple media outlets reported that the body of 21-year-old Bernard Fleming was recovered Tuesday morning.

Fleming hadn't been seen since he went in the water on the Saluda River around 5 p.m. Monday near the Riverbanks Zoo. Friends who were with the Lexington man say Fleming did not know how to swim and was pulled under by the current.

Authorities say they found Fleming's body near rocks close to where he disappeared after power company officials lowered the water level early Tuesday.

Helicopter and dive teams searched the area Monday but had to stop because of high water levels.
