Augusta Dodge owner not talking about future

In the lot once filled with vehicles, Augusta Dodge had only about 20 cars and trucks remaining on Tuesday morning.

Workers were helping owner Greg Helfrich load a van with office supplies at the Gordon Highway dealership.

Mr. Helfrich declined to comment to all media on the dealership or his future plans.

Augusta Dodge is among 789 Chrysler dealers named in a bankruptcy court filing that are being cut from its dealer network.

Today is Chrysler’s deadline for revoking those franchise agreements, although a bankruptcy judge has not approved the terminations.

Mr. Helfrich said previously that he was planning to return to Texas and start a dealership and had invited his staff to join him. The dealership had 22 employees.

Another local dealer that is a part of Chrysler’s plans to trim its network, Dick Smith Chrysler Jeep in Aiken, has already closed. It shut down June 3.
