Richmond school board follows cuts suggested by superintendent

The Richmond County School Board approved the $225,241,336 budget recommended by Superintendent Dana Bedden in the special called meeting this morning.

The balanced budget includes a round of four-day furloughs for all employees, except those such as teachers, who the state requires to work all 190 days.

Dr. Bedden said the budget cuts are painful, but not as severe as some school systems are experiencing.

“I absolutely understand that our teachers are not getting paid what they’re worth, but the ones who get it know that we’re all feeling it as a team,” Dr. Bedden said after the meeting this morning.
