Florida State beats Georgia, advances to regional final

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Freshman Sean Gilmartin pitched a complete game and Jason Stidham had five RBI in Florida State's 8-2 victory over Georgia that advanced the Seminoles to the championship round of the Tallahassee NCAA regional.

Florida State (44-16) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Georgia senior Trevor Holder (7-5) settled down in the middle innings, retiring 12 consecutive batters at one point. Gilmartin (12-3), a left-hander, allowed two runs on five hits.

Georgia (38-23) will play Ohio State in an elimination game Sunday. The winner will play Florida State in the finals.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
