Chronicle names Best & Brightest winner

Yueran Yuan, a senior at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, was named the grand-prize winner of The Augusta Chronicle’s seventh annual Best & Brightest Awards on Thursday night. The awards recognize outstanding members of the class of 2009. Yueran was selected from 21 finalists and received $1,000 at the banquet honoring all the winners Thursday night. Runners-up were Melany Lopez, Augusta Christian Schools; Matthew Shafer, Augusta Preparatory School; Morgan Fletcher, North Augusta High School; and Keely Reichel, Aiken High School. They received $200 each.

Yueran is the son of Guichun Han and Jiange Yuan of Augusta. He is Davidson's valedictorian and Richmond County's STAR student. He scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT. Yueran will attend attend Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science and study artificial intelligence.
