Boating safety class offered

A seven-hour “About Boating Safety” course will be offered on Saturday, May 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m at the Thurmond Dam Visitors Center on the South Carolina side of the dam.

Topics include maritime rules, Georgia and South Carolina regulations, how to prevent emergencies, docking, cruising tips, anchoring, towing a boat, navigation, personal watercraft operation and how to tie basic knots.

Completion satisfies both Georgia and South Carolina state requirements and may qualify the student for insurance discounts. Tuition, which includes a textbook, is $35 per person or $50 per family.
