Details in I-20 weekend fatality

CRAWFORDVILLE, Ga. – Two men returning from a golf trip were killed after the driver of the vehicle in which they were riding lost control and slammed into trees on Interstate 20 in Taliaferro County on Saturday.

Webb Bufford, a dispatcher with the Georgia State Patrol’s Washington post, this morning identified the victims as William Bruce Posey, 54, of Columbia, S.C., and David Mapp Sloan, of Providence, N.C.

Taliaferro County Coroner Milton Alexander said the men died from blunt force trauma.

The driver of the SUV, as well as a third passenger, survived the 4:50 p.m. crash, Coroner Alexander said. The names of the driver and that passenger still had not been made public as of this morning.

The coroner said the driver received a broken leg and other injuries and was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. The driver told authorities the four men were traveling back to Columbia after a golf outing.

The double-fatality remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Reconstruction Team in Gainesville.
