2nd Augusta flu case negative; no local patients test positive

A second suspected Augusta case of novel influenza A H1N1 has turned out to be negative, the Georgia Division of Public Health announced today.

The suspected case was in a 45-year-old military man from Richmond County. Because the military sends all of its suspected flu cases for Texas for testing, it was unclear where the man was currently stationed, Georgia health officials have said. Another suspected military case in a 41-year-old Columbia County man turned out to be negative last week.

The state now has eight confirmed cases, six in Henry County, along with seven other probable cases there. All are associated with Eagles Landing Christian Academy, around which the state is currently conducting a cluster investigation The state has 10 probable cases overall.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
