Chronicle's food page reboots with weekly themes, shopping lists, calendar

Coming Wednesday: A white bean, arugula and shrimp salad is ideal for making ahead of time for a week's worth of fast, delicious lunches at work.

The Chronicle's Wednesday food page is getting a new look and content, with a weekly theme to Cooking With Karin Calloway.

For first Wednesdays, Ms. Calloway will give a recipe that’s great for Sunday supper. These will be more labor-intensive than Ms. Calloway’s usual Quick Cooking recipes, but they will still be easy enough for novices to prepare. In the summer, many of the recipes will be prepared on the grill, and in the fall and winter you can expect hearty soups, stews and pasta sauces.

On second Wednesdays, Ms. Calloway will offer a recipe for a pack-and-go lunch. The recipes will include salads, soups and sandwiches that can be made early in the week and packed. Most of the recipes also would make a light dinner or could be used as part of a multiple-course meal.

Many of Ms. Calloway’s most popular recipes have been for sweet treats and desserts, so on third Wednesdays, she will run a Sweet Tooth recipe.

Fourth Wednesdays will feature “What’s for Dinner?” These recipes will generally have a preparation time (before cooking) of no more than 20 minutes.

And when there is a fifth Wednesday, Ms. Calloway will offer a “wild card.”

We’ll also have a shopping list for each recipe, a calendar of dining and cooking events in the Augusta area, and a chance for you to share your favorite recipes with Karin.
