No injuries in Monday school bus accident; motorist charged

Two Tutt Middle School pupils were taken to the hospital, but later released Monday after an SUV ran into the back of their school bus on Wrightsboro Road.

Authorities said this morning they have charged a motorist in connection with the accident.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Maj. Richard Weaver said the driver of a Chevrolet Blazer was following too closely, causing the accident.

Around 4:30 p.m., the SUV and Bus 225, carrying two Tutt Middle School students, were traveling west on Wrightsboro Road near Heard Avenue when the driver rear-ended the school bus, Maj. Weaver said.

Both of the Tutt students were taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics and were both released Monday night, said Louis Svehla, Richmond County Board of Education spokesman.
