COLUMBIA Authorities say a small, home-built plane with two people aboard crashed in South Carolina, sending two people to the hospital.
State Department of Natural Resources spokesman Robert McCullough said the hang-glider topped "boat plane" took off from Lake Murray in Lexington County, flew for a while, then crashed near Lexington. He did not know the names of the man and woman on board.
WIS-TV reported the two were taken to a hospital. A call to the Lexington County Fire Department was not immediately returned.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the experimental aircraft crashed into a wooded area about 1:45 p.m. Monday. The agency is investigating the cause of the crash.
A phone listing for the registered owner of the craft had been disconnected.
