Donations made to Yerby House at Paine College

On Friday, the Yerby Study Group will present a collection of books to the Frank G. Yerby House at Paine College.

Five donors made the dedication possible: Dr. George C. Bradley, Dr. James E. Carter, The Rev. Dumas Shelnutt, the Downtown Book Store and Lynn Dennison and the Paine College Library and Resource Center, all contributed books to the Yerby Book Collection.

Last year, Paine College celebrated the grand opening of the Yerby House to recognize the acclaimed author who grew up in Augusta.

During his career, Mr. Yerby published more than 30 novels. He was the first black American to write a best-selling novel and to have a book purchased by a Hollywood studio for a film adaptation.
