Augusta Tech's enrollment rises

Augusta Technical College’s spring enrollment jumped 6.3 percent from last spring, part of a growth trend seen throughout the Technical System of Georgia, according to information released this afternoon.

Augusta Tech’s enrollment now stands at 4,234, up from 3,983 a year ago.

The system grew by 15.3 percent this quarter to 90,420, marking its second largest enrollment in the state’s history. The current fiscal year now includes two of the three highest quarterly enrollments in the history of the TCSG.

The enrollment increase includes many students who are looking for additional training after suffering a layoff or who have had difficulty in their job search using their existing education credentials and job experience.

“Georgia’s technical colleges are a beacon of educational opportunity for every Georgian, especially in today’s difficult economy,” TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson said in the news release. “Our colleges offer highly affordable and in-demand programs with the kind of hands-on training and individualized instruction that our students need to find their place in today’s workforce and build great careers for themselves.”
