Aiken changes hours for storm debris drop-off

The hours of operation for an Aiken County drop-off area for debris from an April 10 storm are being changed.

The temporary staging area in the Carrol H. Warner Memorial Research Park, accessed from Gateway Drive off U.S. Highway 278, will now be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to a county news release. The site had been open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Assistant County Administrator Todd Glover said that with the help of local government agencies, businesses, citizens and volunteers “a large portion of the fallen trees and limbs from the recent tornado has been cleaned up.” Because of that, the drop-off hours and days have been reduced.

Residents and contractors with construction debris from the April 10 tornado in Aiken County are asked to continue disposing of those materials at the Barden Landfill on Connector Road.
