A fox that attacked two Harlem pets will be tested for rabies today.
A Harlem resident shot the fox Monday after it attacked a dog and cat owned by another Harlem homeowner.
Columbia County Animal Care and Control Manager Linda Fulmer said the fox was sent this morning to a state Health Department lab in Atlanta for testing. She expects hear the results Wednesday afternoon.
Thus far this year, three raccoons have tested positive for rabies in Columbia County.
Mrs. Fulmer is encouraging all pet owners to keep their pets rabies shots up to date.
The pets attacked by the fox recently received rabies vaccinations and the owner could find no puncture wounds on the animals, she said.
