James Brown case still under review

AIKEN -- Judge Jack Early is still reviewing a proposed settlement involving the estate of the late entertainer James Brown, a worker in Aiken County’s clerk of court office said today.

The proposed agreement has been in the hands of the judge since April 6, when several weeks of court ended involving testimony of the estate’s trustees, Adele Pope and Robert Buchanan.

The trustees have argued against the settlement, saying it leaves out some essential parties. Family members, however, say the settlement upholds Mr. Brown’s legacy.

Even if the judge approves the settlement, the trustees have said they would appeal, a process that could take another two years.
