Columbia County school bus in morning mishap

A mechanic driving a Columbia County school bus caused a three-car wreck this morning on Columbia Road, police said this afternoon.

Only the 20-year-old mechanic Phillip Knox, of Grovetown, was on the bus at the time of wreck, Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said. No one was injured.

The lights of the bus were malfunctioning, so Mr. Knox was driving it back to the school system’s bus shop on Columbia Road when he rear-ended a van, pushing the van into a pick-up truck, Capt. Morris said.

Police charged Mr. Knox with driving too fast for conditions.
