Freeze threatens SC growers

COLUMBIA — Forecasters say farmers and gardeners better prepare for a late season freeze in South Carolina.

The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings for nearly the whole state. The only exception is a freeze watch for coastal counties.

Forecasters say temperatures early Wednesday morning should dip to or just below 32 degrees for a few hours. The hardest freeze is expected along the northern part on Interstate 85, where the low could fall to 27 and freezing temperatures could last several hours.

The weather service says the cold weather won't last long. Highs Wednesday should be in the 60s, with no other freezes in the forecast.
