SC troopers seek driver who fled, caused wreck


The South Carolina Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating a 21-year-old man who is wanted following a car chase.

At 9 a.m. this morning, a highway patrol trooper tried to stop a gold Mitsubishi Lancer with a South Carolina plate of BNW453, believed driven by Michael Gary Smith, according to a news release.

Authorities say the man didn't stop and during a chase caused another vehicle to wreck. Mr. Smith is wanted on failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension, third offense, and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury.

Mr. Smith is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds. His last known address is 156 Titanic Road, Aiken. Anyone with information can call (803) 641-7656, ext. 1.
