Mom arrested after child hurt when struck with belt

An Augusta mother was arrested Thursday after she beat her son with a belt,police said today.

Franca Jacinda Grier, 29, 1600 block of Floyd Street, told officers she was trying to discipline her 6-year-old son after he got in trouble at school for pushing a little girl to the ground, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Investigator Mark Dobbins.

The boy suffered injuries to his face, head, back and arms, Investigator Dobbins said. He also had a broken blood vessel in his eye.

The child was taken to Medical College of Georgia to be checked and he suffered no internal injuries, Investigator Dobbins said.

Ms. Grier was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, according to a sheriff’s office jail committal.
