Morning storm drenches region; school bus in accident

Marks Church Road was closed briefly this morning because of heavy rains. Crews reopened the road at 10:25 a.m., according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.


Earlier this morning, crews were clearing the scene of a crash involving a Richmond County school bus.

At 7:18 a.m. a Chevrolet Impala crashed into the back of the bus at Richmond Hill and Bungalow roads, said Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Gay. The bus was headed to T.W. Josey High School.

Ambulances were called to the scene, and two students were examined for back problems but did not require medical treatment.

Other crashes held up traffic throughout the Augusta area this morning.

Two cars collided at the intersection of William Few Parkway and Washington Road in Evans about 7:30 a.m., a Columbia County 911 dispatcher said. Another two-car crash at the intersection of Old Petersburg and Old Evans Road in Martinez held up traffic from about 7:40 this morning until about 8:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for the city of Augusta; Aiken County, specifying North Augusta, Belvedere and Clearwater; and Columbia County.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity
