Chronicle names executive editor

Alan English has been named executive editor of The Augusta Chronicle. He has been executive editor of the Gannett-owned newspaper The Times in Shreveport, La., since April 2004. Prior to that he was the Times' managing editor for four years. Don Bailey, president of the Chronicle, said the Chronicle is pleased to gain an editor with Mr. English's experience. Gannett, the nation's largest newspaper company, publishes 85 daily newspapers in the United States, including USA Today.

Mr. English will join the Chronicle on April 6. He suceeds Dennis Sodomka, who left the Chronicle in July 2008.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
